Q:Hey! I am a beginner in the adobe illustrator world, but I'm improving.. haha. I really like the geometric things you post on you blog and would love some tips on how to do it. (for practice only). Love your graphics, keep it up! From The Netherlands.

Hmm, It’s hard to explain how I make them. But I’ll try my best!

I start by building the frame for geometric object with the line segment tool(I keep a picture of the object on my art board in illustrator to use as reference)

Next I would fill in the frame with the objects internal structure e.g facial features, Where I see distinctive shadow ect.(Still using the line segment tool. Ensure all lines connect, Don’t worry about joining lines yet.

Once I that’s done, I would then set the opacity for the entire object to around 20 and lock the layer. I then open a new layer.

In my new layer I create shapes from the grid(One at a time using the line too and then joining these to create the shape)

Id the choose one of the grays in the colour select menu as that shapes colour and then lock the shape so I can work on the others a bit easier.

After a while when the entire object is filled with these shapes I unlock then and adjust them to the colour that I want

This is my own process of making geometric art, so it took me a week or so just to get used to making the frames for the object’s

I have no idea how long it would take to learn but keep at it, The outcome is very rewarding!
